THE Right tools for wool
The Lottozero Circular Wool Lab is dedicated to transforming rustic Italian wool—traditionally a discarded byproduct of local dairy and meat sheep farms—into a sustainable, circular raw material for the art and design community. This wool, often disposed of at significant environmental and economic cost, is reimagined through innovative processes rooted in ecological responsibility.
The Circular Wool Lab is equipped with specialized machinery and techniques to enable the upcycling of this underutilized resource.
By collaborating with consulting firms and breeders' associations, the project creates a unique platform where designers, artists, and brands can experiment with and produce circular, innovative textile products.
Through this initiative, Lottozero connects agricultural, ecological, and creative disciplines, making once-wasted wool a valuable material for contemporary design—while promoting large-scale, sustainable reuse.

use the lab
At the Lottozero lab, we have a selection of high-tech textile machines designed to support experimentation and small-scale production.
These include a digital Jacquard loom (TC2), a single-head spinning system (Studio Hilo), a sample carder, a digital embroidery machine and a cutting plotter.
Artists and designers can use these tools to explore new applications for rustic Italian wool, prototype unique textiles, and develop limited edition products.
The combination of manual control and digital precision makes the lab ideal for both traditional craft approaches and innovative, tech-driven design.
USE our range of Circular wool materials
Our extended experience working with local wool has allowed us to develop a deep understanding of its unique properties and potential.
Throughout the years, we successfully transformed raw wool into a variety of high-quality materials including washed fibers, tops, rowing and a variety of natural and dyed yarns suitable for design and textile applications.
We have experimented with different spinning techniques, both carded and worsted — ranging from single-ply to 16-ply yarns—to identify the best texture, durability, and performance.
The result is a distinctive, natural material that balances a natural look with strength, while maintaining the warmth and sustainability of wool.
These materials serve not only as functional components but also as a foundation for high-end, creativity-driven products rooted in circularity and local production.
OPEN CALL – TC2 Circular Wool Residency
In January 2025 Lottozero announced an OPEN CALL for a one-week residency for designers and artists!
This unique opportunity offered one member of our community the chance to work with our state-of-the-art TC2 loom free of charge, to
use our cutting-edge machinery and technology to give new life to the otherwise wasted rustic wool, exploring its properties, prototype innovative ideas, or produce limited series that highlight circularity and sustainability.
Of the almost 300 applicants Leonie Burkhardt was the winner of our Circular Wool Lab Open Call!
Leonie is a textile designer and artist based in Göteborg, currently a PhD candidate at the Swedish School of Textiles. She is passionate about exploring the craft of weaving and pushing its limits through digital tools.
Leonie’s project, Woven Space, explores wool’s potential as an adaptive and spatial material. At the TC2 Circular Wool Residency, she experimented with 3D weaving to create flexible, woven structures for textile-based housing — an innovative take on soft architecture.
