New artist-in-residence: Bianca Lugmayr
Bianca Lugmayr’s practice delves deeply into language, materiality, and abstraction. Her signature is the fast, freely sewn line, which embraces and highlights the value of imperfection.
In her graphic textile works, the force of the sewing machine needle perforating the fabric intensifies the power of the repeatedly written word.
Across her practice, the line and the textile grid serve as recurring visual tools.
During her residency at Lottozero, Lugmayr experimented with the thicker line of wool yarn, drawn through the fabric using the tufting technique. This exploration forms part of a broader body of research investigating the mathematical theory of sets and its philosophical implications.
The residency is supported by Land Vorarlberg, Austria, as part of the „Go Scholarship 2026“ program.
Bianca Lugmayr was born 1979 in Wels (Austria) and lives and works in Vorarlberg. She studied pharmacy at the University of Innsbruck as well as textile/art and design at the University of Arts Linz under Marga Persson and cultural management at the Institute for Cultural Concepts in Vienna.
